CALDWELL, Idaho – Taylor Pruett scored a career-high 27 points and added nine rebounds and six assists, helping The College of Idaho to an 89-78 victory over in-state rival Lewis-Clark State at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The win for the Coyotes (8-2) was their eighth in a row – their longest win streak since winning 12-straight in the 2000-01 season. It was also their first win against L-C since 2001 and completed a perfect 5-0 record at home during non-conference play.
Early on, it was Demetrius Perkins leading the way for C of I, scoring the Yotes first eight points – as the Purple and Gold built a 23-13 lead at the midway point of the half. A thunderous dunk by Perkins in transition extended the lead to 38-26, with the Coyotes leading 47-36 at the half.
The Warriors (8-2) tried to stay close in the second half, as Jon Humphrie scored 12 of his team-high 14 points in the period, but could not crack the Coyote attack. After a Humphrie basket got L-C within 60-48, a Josh Wilson driving lay-up and a Pruett three extended the Yotes lead to 17, with a Jordan O'Byrne triple with three minutes remaining pushing the lead to 86-65 and C of I coasted to the win.
Perkins added a career-high 23 points in the victory, hitting 9-of-10 field goals on the night. Sydney Donaldson had eight of the Yotes 25 bench points, while Ben Van Lith led C of I with 11 rebounds. The Coyotes made 53-percent of their field goal tries, including 10-of-23 shots from outside the arc.
Brady Bagby had 13 points for the Warriors, with Jamaal Thomas adding 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds in the loss. L-C made just 41-percent of their field goals, with the NAIA's top three-point shooting team limited to 7-of-21 makes from long range.
The Yotes close out their non-conference schedule this weekend, traveling to Salt Lake City for the Westminster Thanksgiving Classic – meeting Westminster on Friday and Montana Tech on Saturday.
