CALDWELL, Idaho – Antonio Garrett scored a game-high 24 points, as The College of Idaho used a 21-4 run to open the second half, blowing out Westminster College, 90-71, in Game 2 of the 27th Annual Golden Rule Shootout.
The win for the Yotes (5-2) extended their win streak to five games – ending a five-game losing streak to Westminster in the tournament. The 19-point win equaled the largest victory margin ever against the Griffins (3-2), as the 2001-02 C of I squad defeated WC, 76-57.
After Westminster used a 7-0 run to close the first half to get within 41-37, the Yotes held the visitors to 1-of-13 shooting to open the second half – including a seven minute stretch without a made field goal. A steal and basket by Demetrius Perkins extended the lead to 49-39, with a three-point play by Taylor Pruett pushing the margin to 54-39. An Sydney Donaldson lay-up off a great feed from post Joe Vaz gave the Yotes a 62-41 lead – a margin that would never get below double-digits.
Garrett was 10-of-14 from the floor in the win, adding eight rebounds. Pruett had 16 points, 16 rebounds, and five blocked shots, with Perkins adding 15 and Jordan O'Byrne scoring 14. C of I made 50-percent of their field goal attempts and held a 49-43 rebound edge.
The Griffins were led by 20 points and 10 rebounds from Tallon Robertson – but WC connected on just 25-of-75 field goal attempts and lost despite 18 offensive rebounds.
In the early game today, Eastern Oregon rallied from a 13-point second half deficit, closing the game on a 25-4 run to defeat Walla Walla, 76-67.
Tomorrow, Westminster meets Eastern Oregon at 5 p.m., followed by the Yotes and Walla Walla at 7 p.m.
