4x800 Breaks Record

The College of Idaho women's 4x800-meter relay set a new school record in winning their heat to highlight Day 1 at the NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Marion, Ind.

The Lady Yotes bested a field of eight teams with a time of 9:13.06 - nearly five seconds faster than the school mark.  It was the fourth-fastest time in the prelims and qualifies the team for the final.

Three others advanced in their indiviudal preliminaries - as Jasmine Sibert (1:04.10) and Mike Hurd (54.16) both advanced to the semifinals of the 400-meter hurdles, while Nick Hampton advanced to the semifinals of the 800-meters.

The Coyotes got a tough break in the decathlon, as Austin Basterrechea was injured and had to withdraw from the event.  After posting a fourth-place finish in the 100-meters (11.74), Basterrechea injured his hamstring on his first attempt in the long jump and withdrew from competition.

Andrew Hugill was the first C of I athlete to compete in a final, taking 11th in the 10,000-meters (33:20.13), while both Dominic Bolin (4:00.88 in the 1,500) and the men's 4x800 relay (7:49.84) failed to advance to the semifinals.

Day 2 of the meet begins tomorrow at 1 p.m.
