Second Half Surge Lifts Warner Pacific Past Coyotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – Stephen Harris scored 17 points and added 16 rebounds, as Warner Pacific rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat The College of Idaho, 70-57, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The No. 11 ranked Knights (7-2, 1-0 CCC) held the Yotes without a made field goal over a nine minute stretch in the second half, breaking open a close game with a 17-2 run to lead 59-43 with four minutes to play.

The opening half was a grind for both sides, as neither WPC, nor the Coyotes (3-6, 0-1) shot better than 30-percent. from the field.  The C of I jumped out to a 8-2 lead eight minutes into the game, as the Knights made just one of their first 10 shots.  After the visitors closed within 8-7 on a Josh Black lay-up, a put-back basket from Ben Van Lith started a 14-0 run by the Yotes - including three jumpers from Taylor Pruett, to take their biggest lead of the night at 21-7, and led 26-18 at the break.

However, the last 20 minutes was a different story, as a Jermey Jones lay-up capped a 10-2 run by WPC to give the Knights their first lead of the evening at 37-36, with 13:56 to play.  Following a three-point play from Pruett that gave the Yotes their final lead at 41-39, The C of I missed six-straight shots and had seven turnovers in the ensuing nine minutes, as Harris had three buckets and Coletun Tarr added five points, as the Knights built a 16-point lead.

Doug Thomas had 12 points in the win for WPC – who made 67-percent of their second half shots and won despite 31 turnovers.

Taylor Pruett had 19 points and 10 rebounds and Ben Van Lith had 12 points and 13 rebounds in the loss - as The C of I could not take advantage of 21 offensive rebounds on the night.

The Coyotes return to the court tomorrow night, hosting Concordia University at 7:30 p.m.
