Concordia Hands Lady Yotes Second Straight Loss

PORTLAND, Ore. - Brianna Hogan had a match-high 16 kills, leading Concordia University to their first victory over The College of Idaho since 2003, defeating the No. 14 Coyotes 25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15, inside Cavalier Court.

Box Score

The win for the Cavaliers (15-8, 12-4 CCC) was their first against the Yotes since Oct. 25, 2003 and was C of I's second-straight loss - the first time since the 2008 season that the Coyotes had dropped back-to-back league counters.

After spotting the Yotes (16-6, 14-2) a 10-6 lead in Set 1, Hogan took over, hammering six kills in the period, including three in a crucial 9-3 run late in the frame, as CU built a 23-16 edge to win the set.

The Coyotes never trailed in Set 2, jumping out to a 9-4 lead on a Torrey Hulsey kill.  The Cavs would get within 16-14, but Hulsey responded with three straight winners to help The C of I even the match at a set apiece.

Set 3 saw the Yotes attack falter - recording 10 hitting errors in the period alone, including five straight miscues that erased an early 5-4 lead, giving CU the lead for good.  Set 4 was tight, as the Cavs led 15-13, but Jackie Stein had four kills in a match-clinching 10-2 run to end the contest.

Stein had 12 kills without an error for CU, setter Lindsey Mangan logged 38 assists, with libero Kelsey Kai leading all players with 21 digs.

Jessica Peacock had 13 kills and Hulsey 12 to lead the Yotes - but 28 hitting errors on the night hurt the offensive output.  Sierra Porter had a match-high 41 assists, with Kylee Nawahine leading the Coyotes with 15 digs.

The loss pulls Southern Oregon into a tie for first with the Yotes with three matches remaining in the regular-season - including tomorrow night's match-up at Warner Pacific.
