CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 6-ranked College of Idaho women's soccer team opened the second half with a burst of momentum and grabbed the lead, but NCAA Division II opponent University of Puget Sound rallied with three second-half goals to defeat the Yotes, 3-1, Sunday afternoon at James Hayner Field in Walla Walla, Washington.
 
The Yotes (4-1) concluded their nonconference schedule against the Loggers (2-0), receiving a standout performance from goalkeeper Molly McCabe, who recorded six saves.
 
After a scoreless first half, The College of Idaho wasted little time finding the breakthrough. Just 2:17 into the second period, Abbi Roubidoux finished a scoring opportunity off an assist from Alondra Osuna to put the Yotes in front, 1-0. The goal marked Roubidoux's first of the season and gave The College of Idaho an early second-half advantage.
 
Puget Sound answered less than two minutes later when Hayden Goodman found the equalizer in the 49th minute. The Loggers eventually took the lead in the 78th minute as Charlotte Willis scored off a setup from Kate Short before Short added an insurance goal in the 83rd minute.
 
The College of Idaho generated eight shots on the afternoon, with Roubidoux accounting for the team's lone goal and four shot attempts. Rylee Russell and Zoey Takeuchi each added a shot, while Gracie Walt forced a save on target late in the second half.
 
McCabe kept the Yotes level throughout the opening half with three saves and finished the match with six stops. Puget Sound held a 13-8 edge in total shots and a 9-2 advantage in shots on goal.
 
The Yotes now turn their attention to Cascade Conference play and their home opener. The College of Idaho will host Warner Pacific (Ore.) on Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. inside Simplot Stadium.
