CALDWELL, Idaho – In front of the home crowd at Simplot Stadium, the No. 9-ranked The College of Idaho women's soccer team delivered a gritty defensive performance and just enough offense Friday evening, earning a 1-0 shutout victory over Warner Pacific in the Yotes' home opener.

The lone breakthrough came in the 21st minute when senior Abbi Roubidoux finished off a chance created by freshman Rylee Russell, giving the Yotes all the offense they would need. Roubidoux's third goal of the season proved to be the difference in a match that featured long stretches of pressure from The College of Idaho.

The Yotes dictated play throughout the night, outshooting the Knights 15-8 and holding a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks. Despite generating nearly twice as many shots and consistently pinning Warner Pacific deep in its own end, The College of Idaho was forced to battle until the final whistle to secure the result.

Roubidoux led the attack with three shots, including the game-winner, while Russell created dangerous opportunities throughout the match and recorded the assist. Defender Shaelyn Olsen was active in the attack as well, firing three shots and placing one on frame.

While the offense controlled possession, the Yote back line stood tall when called upon. Goalkeeper Molly McCabe recorded three saves to earn her fourth win and third shutout of the season. Warner Pacific managed only three shots on goal despite pushing numbers forward during the second half.

The opening 45 minutes set the tone as The College of Idaho owned an 8-5 shot advantage and earned five corner kicks. The breakthrough arrived at the 20:07 mark when Russell's service found Roubidoux, who buried her chance and ignited the home crowd.

The Yotes continued to apply pressure after halftime, adding seven more shots and four additional corner kicks. Warner Pacific's defense kept the deficit at one, but the Knights could never find an equalizer against a disciplined College of Idaho defense that limited quality scoring chances down the stretch.

With the victory, The College of Idaho improves to 4-1 overall heading into Cascade Conference play.

The Yotes return to action Sunday when they host Walla Walla University at Simplot Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
