GLENDALE, Ariz. — The College of Idaho women's tennis team began its GSAC road swing Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 6-1 decision to Arizona Christian.
The Yotes opened the match with a strong showing in doubles play, as the No. 1 pairing of Kinsey Lockhart and Lina Boylan secured a 6-3 victory. After a narrow 7-5 loss at No. 2 doubles, the point came down to the No. 3 position, where Arizona Christian was able to clinch the doubles point and take the early 1-0 lead.
College of Idaho answered in singles with a standout performance from Hristina Ljuba at the No. 2 spot. Ljuba was dominant in her straight-set victory, 6-1, 6-3, to earn the Yotes' lone team point.
The Yotes competed across the remaining singles lineup, including a three-set battle at No. 3 from Berkley Klarich, who opened with a first-set win before her opponent rallied. Nicole Tran also pushed her match at No. 5 into a tight contest, forcing extended games and a third set.
Despite the final score, the Yotes showed fight throughout the lineup against a strong opponent.
College of Idaho will continue GSAC play in Arizona later this week, looking to build on Wednesday's effort.
