Block Party: Yotes Tie Record, Dominate Evergreen 100-52

CALDWELL, Idaho — The Yotes capped a 2-0 weekend with a commanding 100-52 win over Evergreen State on Saturday, tying the program record with 14 blocks in a dominant defensive performance at home.

College of Idaho (17-7, 12-4 CCC) overwhelmed the Geoducks at the rim, with eight Yotes recording at least one block: Chance Winter (5), Ethan Tinney (4), David Kludt (2), Rey Johnston (1), Reece Sasser-Gunson (1), Tucker Tiddens (1), Jackson Rogers (1) and Conner Sheets (1). Their rim protection held Evergreen to 35 percent shooting and set the tone throughout.

Utrillo Morris led the Yotes with 19 points, five assists and four steals. Rey Johnston added 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting with three steals, and Dougie Peoples scored 12.

Freshman forward Reece Sasser-Gunson delivered the highlight sequence of the night, throwing down back-to-back fast-break dunks off consecutive steals in the second half. He finished with 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting and six rebounds.

C of I's depth again separated the teams. Tucker Tiddens scored 15 points off the bench, Isaac Mercer added eight, and the reserves combined for 40 points. The Yotes outscored Evergreen 62-26 in the paint and converted 21 Geoduck turnovers into 29 points.

Evergreen State (3-15, 3-13) was led by Tony Frohlich-Fair's 25 points, but the Geoducks struggled to keep pace against College of Idaho's defense and transition game.

The Yotes led 43-26 at the break and shot 60.5 percent in the second half to reach 100 points for the second time this season.

College of Idaho continues CCC play next week, riding momentum from its record-tying defensive effort.
