LOGAN, Utah College of Idaho showed noticeable improvement on the second day of its NCAA Division I road trip, but Utah State proved too strong in a 7-0 result Saturday at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club.
The Yotes produced steadier rallies and more competitive stretches of play than in Friday's match at Idaho State. Berkley Klarich set the tone in singles, working her way into longer points at the top of the lineup before falling 6-1, 6-3. Adele Long and Alyssa Johnson also pushed deeper into their exchanges, showing growth against a physical Utah State lineup.
In doubles, the Yotes created more pressure and won several extended points, although the Aggies secured the opening point with wins on all three courts. Utah State then carried that momentum into singles and completed the sweep across the lineup.
Johnson collected several points at No. 5 singles, one of the stronger showings of the afternoon for the Yotes. Klarich and Nicole Tran each picked up points in their second sets, and freshman Elizabeth Sagehorn continued to gain experience at No. 6.
The match closed out a challenging two day Division I test for College of Idaho. Despite the results, the improved composure and rally quality provided encouraging signs as the Yotes prepare to return to Cascade Conference play.
