KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - College of Idaho jumped out to early leads in both games Friday, but Oregon Tech used big middle innings to hand the Yotes a 7-5 and 9-6 sweep in the Cascade Conference opener at Stilwell Stadium.
The Yotes (11-5, 0-2 CCC) looked sharp out of the gate in Game 1. Madelyn Powell plated the first run of conference play with an RBI single in the opening inning, and Kina Watts added a two-run homer in the third to push the advantage to 3-1. An inning later, Kamryn Ham laced a two-run double to left-center, scoring Hallie Campbell and Kate Crosby to stretch the lead to 5-2.
Oregon Tech (14-2, 2-0 CCC) methodically worked back. Single runs in the third and fourth cut the deficit to one before the Owls delivered the decisive blow in the fifth. After a hit batter and an RBI double tied the game, Gina Allen launched a three-run home run to center to flip a three-run Yote lead into a 7-5 advantage. The Yotes were held hitless over the final three innings as Oregon Tech secured the opener.
The momentum swings carried into Game 2. After Oregon Tech struck first, College of Idaho answered in the third when Ham doubled and Audrey Sweet reached before Powell roped a two-run double to left for a 2-1 lead. The Owls responded immediately with a three-run third, highlighted by a bases-clearing double from Addison Kachnik.
Chloe Flerchinger kept the Yotes within striking distance with a solo home run to right in the fourth, and Watts later delivered a sacrifice fly in the fifth to trim the margin to 5-4. But each time College of Idaho closed the gap, Oregon Tech countered. The Owls added single runs in the fourth and fifth before breaking through with three more in the sixth to create separation.
The Yotes did not go quietly. In the seventh, Sweet doubled to center and Watts followed with a two-run homer to center, her second long ball of the day, cutting the final margin to 9-6.
Watts drove in five runs across the doubleheader, while Powell added three RBIs and Ham scored four times. Flerchinger's home run marked her first of the conference slate.
In the circle, Drew Williams went the distance in Game 1, allowing seven runs, six earned, over six innings. Rylee Smith worked five innings in Game 2 before Grace Neer handled the final frame. Oregon Tech combined for 25 hits on the afternoon.
College of Idaho will look to regroup as the series continues in Klamath Falls.
