KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Oregon Tech's powerful offense proved too much for College of Idaho on Friday, as the Owls swept the Yotes on day two of their Cascade Conference opening weekend with 17-9 and 10-2 wins at Stilwell Stadium. College of Idaho showed early promise, especially in the opening game when its lineup erupted for seven runs in the second and third innings, but Oregon Tech's depth and pressure at the plate carried the day.
The Yotes took a 7 to 1 lead in Game 1 after a three run home run from Kamryn Ham, a solo shot by Kina Watts, and run scoring swings from Olivia Asumendi, Kate Crosby, and Hallie Campbell. College of Idaho continued to put together quality at bats throughout the game, finishing with 10 hits and five players recording multi-hit efforts.
Oregon Tech responded with a barrage of scoring that shifted momentum for good. The Owls pushed across 16 runs over the final four innings, earning key contributions from Addison Kachnik, who drove in four runs, and Leah Huffman, who finished 3 for 3 with three RBIs. Multi RBI games from Puakea Milbourne, Malia Mick, and several others helped Oregon Tech pull away late.
The Yotes continued to compete at the plate in the second game, with Asumendi delivering another RBI double and Watts crushing her second home run of the day. Asumendi finished 2 for 2, while the Yotes produced six hits against a steady outing from Oregon Tech starter Jenna Gorden.
Oregon Tech again struck early, scoring six runs across the first two innings and adding three more in the fifth. Milbourne drove in four runs, including a three run home run in the second, and Nita Cook recorded three hits, a double, and two RBIs to pace a lineup that totaled 10 hits.
College of Idaho leaves the day with offensive positives, highlighted by Watts' two home runs, Asumendi's three hit performance across the doubleheader, and early inning scoring that put pressure on one of the nation's top ranked teams.
The Yotes and Owls conclude the series Saturday in Klamath Falls.
