CALDWELL, Idaho The College of Idaho swept Saturday's doubleheader at Wolfe Field, taking a 5 to 4 extra inning win in Game 2 before posting a 15 to 7 victory in Game 3. The Yotes used late execution to secure the opener and an explosive offense to control the nightcap, remaining undefeated at 7 and 0 heading into Sunday's series finale.
Game 2: College of Idaho 5, Pacific University (Ore.) 4 (10 innings)
The Yotes opened the day with a tight 10 inning win. Jack Ryan put The College of Idaho on the board with a solo home run in the second inning. Corbin Sterner later pushed the Yotes ahead with a two RBI single in the fourth that scored Ryan and Austin Moon.
Pacific rallied to tie the game in the ninth, but the Yotes responded in the 10th. After Caden Casagrande and Pete Bacon reached base, Keitaro Adachi drew a bases loaded walk that brought home Bryce Mahlke for the winning run.
Willy Shirts recorded the final out in the top half of the 10th and earned the win. Zaylor Bruegeman, Heath Sasser-Gunson and Luca Quilici combined for nine innings on the mound before Shirts closed it out.
Game 3: College of Idaho 15, Pacific University (Ore.) 7
The Yotes offense erupted in the second game, highlighted by a seven run fifth inning. James Hull finished 3 for 4 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Casagrande drove in five runs with his dramatic grand slam in the bottom of the fifth. Ryan added three hits and a two run homer as the Yotes broke the game open.
Darren Smith delivered three hits and multiple RBI, helping extend the lead through the middle innings. Shirts earned his second win of the day in relief, and Ryan closed the final two innings on the mound.
The Yotes and Pacific University (Ore.) conclude the four game series Sunday at 11 a.m. at Wolfe Field.
