Salem, Ore – The five-game win streak came to an end Friday night as the College of Idaho women's basketball team fell at Corban University, 79-65, in Cascade Collegiate Conference action.
The Yotes battled early, holding a lead in the first quarter and keeping pace through much of the opening half. C of I shot 44 percent in the first quarter and trailed by just two possessions midway through the second before Corban closed the half strong to take a 48-39 advantage into the break.
Corban used a decisive third quarter to create separation. The Warriors shot over 40 percent from the field in the frame and knocked down three 3-pointers, pushing the margin to as many as 20 points. The Yotes struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the third, shooting just 1-of-13 from the field.
Despite the deficit, C of I showed fight in the fourth quarter, shooting 61.5 percent and getting key contributions across the lineup. The Yotes outscored the Warriors 21-17 in the final period, highlighted by strong interior play and improved ball movement, but the earlier run proved too much to overcome.
Maiya Hardy led the way offensively for the Yotes with 15 points, while
Kylie Waltermeyer added 10.
Taryn Riley chipped in nine points, and
Mia Austin provided a spark off the bench with eight. C of I finished the game shooting 39.3 percent from the field and scored 40 points in the paint.
C of I returns to action tomorrow on the road against Bushnell University at 4 p.m. MT (3 p.m. PT).
