Numbers Favor Yotes in Victory over Carroll College

CALDWELL, Idaho – For the first time this season, the celebration belonged to the Yotes.

After enduring a string of tough results and near misses, The College of Idaho broke through in emphatic fashion Friday night, defeating Carroll College 3-0 at Simplot Stadium for its first victory of the 2026 campaign.

The Yotes entered the match still searching for that elusive first win, but from the opening whistle they played with urgency and confidence. That determination paid off in the 19th minute when Alfie Roffey calmly converted a penalty kick, giving The College of Idaho a 1-0 lead and igniting the home crowd.

The one-goal advantage held deep into the second half as Carroll mounted its best push of the evening. Goalkeeper Yago Gonzalez repeatedly answered the challenge, finishing with four saves to preserve the clean sheet. The Saints nearly found a breakthrough when they struck the crossbar on consecutive attempts in the 79th minute, but fortune finally favored the Yotes.

Moments later, The College of Idaho found itself playing with a two-man advantage after two Carroll players were sent off. The Yotes quickly capitalized as Roffey stepped to the penalty spot once again and buried his second goal of the night in the 79th minute, doubling the lead and putting the match firmly in the hosts' control.

The visitors were later assessed a third red card from their bench area, but the outcome was already beginning to take shape as the Yotes continued to press for more.

The final dagger came in the 89th minute when Alejandro Cortes slipped a pass to Aldin Didovic, who finished clinically for his first goal of the season and a 3-0 advantage.

Roffey led the way offensively with two goals, both from the penalty spot. Didovic added a goal, while Cortes recorded an assist. Carter Griffith paced the Yotes with three shots as The College of Idaho outshot Carroll 12-11 and held a 6-4 edge in shots on goal.

Gonzalez anchored the defensive effort, recording four saves for his first shutout victory of the season.

For Carroll, goalkeeper Noah Jordan made three saves to keep the Saints within striking distance throughout much of the contest, while Arnaldo Primera provided several dangerous attacking moments.

The victory improves The College of Idaho to 1-4-5 overall and 1-1-5 in Cascade Collegiate Conference play, providing a much-needed boost as the season enters a critical stretch.

The Yotes will look to build on the momentum Saturday when they host Rocky Mountain College at 6:30 p.m. at Simplot Stadium.
