No. 20 Yotes Roll Past Northwest, 6-1, Move Within Reach of CCC Title

CALDWELL, Idaho – No. 20 The College of Idaho put together one of its most complete offensive performances of the season Friday night, scoring six goals from six different contributors in a commanding 6-1 Cascade Collegiate Conference victory over Northwest University at Simplot Stadium.

With the win, the Yotes improved to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in CCC play, setting up a chance to clinch the CCC Regular Season Championship on Saturday versus The Evergreen State College. The College of Idaho will need just a tie in its regular-season finale to secure the conference crown.

The Yotes wasted little time taking control, finding the back of the net just 53 seconds into the match. Claire Busse opened the scoring after finishing a setup from Rylee Russell, giving The College of Idaho an immediate 1-0 advantage.

The lead doubled in the 27th minute when defender Ava Poyser scored her first goal of the season off an assist from Alondra Osuna. The Yotes took a 2-0 cushion into halftime after outshooting Northwest 12-1 in the opening 45 minutes.

The offensive pressure only intensified after the break.

Just six minutes into the second half, Allison Moultray converted an assist from Abbi Roubidoux to make it 3-0. Less than 12 minutes later, Morgan Nicoletti found the net off a feed from Russell, stretching the lead to 4-0.

Northwest briefly cut into the deficit on a goal from Madeline Johnson in the 73rd minute, but the Yotes quickly responded. Freshman Taylor Maehr scored twice in a span of less than five minutes, both on assists from Nicoletti, to put the match away and complete the 6-1 rout.

Nicoletti finished with a goal and two assists, while Russell added two assists and fired a match-high 10 shots. Roubidoux registered an assist and six shots, while Osuna contributed an assist as part of a balanced offensive attack that produced 31 total shots and 18 shots on goal.

Six different Yotes recorded goals: Busse, Poyser, Moultray, Nicoletti and Maehr, who accounted for the final two tallies of the night.

In goal, Molly McCabe earned the victory with three saves before giving way to Kate Pereur, who added two stops over the final 19 minutes. The Yotes limited Northwest to just nine shots and six shots on frame.

The College of Idaho closes the regular season Saturday at Simplot Stadium with a CCC championship on the line. A draw or better will secure the conference's regular-season title for the Yotes. Kickoff for the final game of the regular season is at 4PM MT with seniors being honored at 3PM MT.
