LA GRANDE, Ore. - Samantha Gjersvold scored unassisted in the 39th minute, and Eastern Oregon made it stand up for a 1-0 Cascade Collegiate Conference win over the College of Idaho on Friday at Community Stadium.
Eastern Oregon pressed early and kept CI on its heels for much of the first half. Kardyn Martinez forced a save from Molly McCabe with a header in the second minute, and Holly Dorhauer fired three shots in the opening 11 minutes. Makenna Moore hit the post at 16:57, and McCabe stopped another Dorhauer attempt at 20:44.
Alondra Osuna put the Yotes' first shot on frame at 4:17, which Elysa Morse saved. CI's best stretch followed two Osuna corners in the 13th and 15th minutes, but shots by Abbi Roubidoux and Rylee Russell were both blocked.
Gjersvold broke through at 38:36 for her third goal of the season. McCabe kept the deficit at one a minute later, turning away Cassidy Harding.
The second half was tighter. Eastern Oregon outshot CI 5-3 after the break, and the Yotes' clearest look came at 61:19, when Morse saved a shot from Russell. Roubidoux headed wide at 72:58. Eastern Oregon nearly doubled its lead when Ava Henkemeyer hit the post at 80:12, and Osuna's final attempt at 88:26 went over the bar.
Morse made two saves for the shutout. Eastern Oregon outshot CI 14-6, including 6-2 on target, and was called for 15 fouls to CI's seven. Dorhauer and Samantha Jones drew yellow cards.
McCabe played all 90 minutes in goal for the Yotes and made five saves. Osuna and Russell each had two shots, one on goal.
CI falls to 8-2-0 overall and 4-1-0 in conference play. Eastern Oregon improves to 8-2-1 and 4-1-0.
