CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho battled late but could not overcome a strong Northwest (Wash.) squad, falling 25-19, 25-16, 25-23 in Friday night's Cascade Conference opener at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The No. 10-ranked Yotes (6-2, 0-1 CCC) showed grit in the third set, erasing an early deficit and pulling even at 21-21 behind the play of Mia Hutchinson, who led all players with 12 kills, and Cierra Bohrn, who added nine kills and a team-high three blocks. Cora Young chipped in six kills and six block assists, helping the Yotes slow down the Eagles' attack at the net.
Despite the late push, the Eagles (7-0, 1-0) stayed unbeaten thanks to clutch serving and a balanced offense. Aubree Dees finished with nine kills and three aces, while setter Morgan Harter tallied 24 assists and 11 digs to guide Northwest to the sweep.
The Yotes return to action Saturday night, looking to bounce back on their home floor against Evergreen State.
