LEWISTON, Idaho - College of Idaho controlled the tempo early and held firm in crunch time, sweeping Lewis-Clark State 25-15, 25-20, 26-24 on Saturday to hand the Warriors just their second loss of the season.
The Yotes (10-5, 4-4 Cascade Conference) jumped out to a commanding lead in the opening set, using a 12-2 run to pull away for a 25-15 win. In the second, the Warriors briefly held the edge at 15-11 before College of Idaho surged back with a string of kills from Abigail Flerchinger and Mia Hutchinson to close it out 25-20.
The third set proved the tightest, with LC State (9-2, 6-2) rallying late to tie it at 24-24. But the Yotes answered, taking advantage of a service error before Cierra Bohrn and Cora Young combined on a block to secure the 26-24 victory.
Hutchinson led the way with 15 kills on .414 hitting, while Flerchinger added 13 kills at a .375 clip. Bohrn chipped in nine kills, and Young posted five kills and five blocks. Setter Shaynee McWilliams had 38 assists and 12 digs as the Yotes hit .284 overall and won the blocking battle 14-10.
Taylor Boyce paced LC State with 13 kills, while Juliauna Forgach Aguilar tallied nine. The Warriors, who suffered their first loss on Friday to No. 1 Eastern Oregon, hit just .138 on the night.
