ASHLAND, Ore. - No. 10 College of Idaho pushed No. 19 Southern Oregon to the limit Saturday afternoon before falling in a five-set Cascade Conference clash, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 25-14, 15-11.
The Yotes (8-3, 2-2 CCC) found their rhythm after a tight opening set, hitting .297 in the second and .294 in the third to grab a 2-1 match lead. Outside hitter Mia Hutchinson paced the attack with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Cierra Bohrn was efficient with 11 kills on a .360 percentage. Middle blocker Cora Young added seven kills and a team-high six block assists.
Setter Shaynee McWilliams directed the offense with 27 assists and kept the Raiders under pressure from the service line with three aces. Libero Liza Montalbo anchored the defense with 13 digs.
College of Idaho cooled off in the fourth as Southern Oregon forced a deciding set, where the Yotes stayed within striking distance before the Raiders closed it out late.
