Yotes Flip the Script After Set One Stumble to Take Down No. 3 Corban

CALDWELL, Idaho - The No. 12 College of Idaho volleyball team delivered one of its biggest wins of the season Friday night, rallying past No. 3 Corban 12-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-22 in front of a loud home crowd at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Warriors (10-2, 4-1 CCC) looked every bit of their national ranking in the opening set, hitting .320 and racing to a 25-12 win while forcing 12 Yote errors. But from there the momentum shifted. The Yotes (9-3, 3-2 CCC) tightened their attack and controlled the net, using a .345 hitting clip in the second set to even the match.

College of Idaho carried that energy into the third set, turning back a late Corban rally with a kill from Cora Young and a block at the net to close out a 25-22 win. In the fourth, the Yotes broke open a back-and-forth battle with key swings from Abigail Flerchinger and Mia Hutchinson before sealing the match on a Wilson service ace that sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Flerchinger paced the Yotes with 12 kills on a .360 hitting percentage, while Hutchinson added 11 kills and four blocks. Young finished with eight kills and a team-high 10 blocks, and setter Shaynee McWilliams posted a double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs to go with five blocks. Defensively, libero Liza Montalbo anchored the back row with 19 digs, while Wilson chipped in six digs and two aces.

In total, the Yotes out-blocked the Warriors 31-18 and held Corban to just .121 hitting after the first set. Makayla Roginski led Corban with 13 kills, while Kendra Bittle tallied eight kills and 10 points.

With the win, College of Idaho handed Corban its first Cascade Conference loss of the season in a stacked weekend of top-15 matchups. The Yotes have now defeated both a No. 2 and a No. 3 opponent this fall, further cementing their place among the nation's elite.
