KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - College of Idaho opened its first Cascade Conference road trip on a high note Friday night, grinding out a sweep of Oregon Tech 25-20, 31-29, 25-23 in a tightly contested matchup at Danny Miles Court.
The Yotes (8-2, 2-1 CCC) controlled the opening set with steady hitting and a late surge, using kills from Mia Hutchinson and a block from Cierra Bohrn to close it out 25-20.
The second set proved to be the turning point. College of Idaho trailed by as many as eight points before storming back, leaning on Hutchinson's firepower and clutch swings from Abigail Flerchinger. Tied at 29, the Yotes rattled off two straight points, capped by an Alexa Wheeler kill, to steal the frame 31-29.
Momentum carried into the third, but the Owls (6-4, 1-2) refused to fold. Oregon Tech went on a mid-set run behind Savanna Sterck and Willow Jacobson, eventually taking a late lead. College of Idaho answered with key defensive stops, including a pair of timely blocks from Bohrn and Wheeler, before Flerchinger hammered down the final point for a 25-23 win.
Hutchinson finished with a match-high 14 kills, while Flerchinger hit .368 with nine kills. Bohrn added seven kills and a team-best nine block assists, and Wheeler chipped in six kills and six blocks. Setter Shaynee McWilliams kept the offense balanced with 24 assists and six digs.
Jacobson led Oregon Tech with 10 kills on a .429 attack percentage, while Sterck added nine kills and Boyd tallied 31 assists and 11 digs.
The Yotes hit .182 as a team and dominated the net with 23 block assists, fending off an Oregon Tech squad that finished at .129 with 21 blocks of its own.
