CALDWEL, Idaho - The College of Idaho men's soccer team opened its 2025 season with a tense 0–0 draw against Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (Ariz.) in front of a lively crowd at Simplot Stadium. Both teams showed flashes of attacking promise, but neither could find the back of the net in a match defined by defensive discipline and goalkeeping excellence.
The Yotes slightly outshot Embry-Riddle 14 to 13. Despite the pressure, Embry-Riddle's goalkeeper Alex Bissett made two key saves, while College of Idaho senior Matej Hron delivered a standout performance with six saves, including several in the second half that kept the match level.
Eric Hornung led the Yotes with four shots, including a strike in the 76th minute that rattled the post and nearly broke the deadlock. Keidin Green added two shots on goal, and Jett Longanecker contributed three attempts as the Yotes pressed forward late in the match.
Embry-Riddle's Nitai Bental was a constant threat, recording three shots on goal and forcing Hron into action multiple times. The visitors committed 16 fouls to the Yotes' 12, and five yellow cards were issued as physical play escalated in the second half.
Despite the lack of scoring, the match offered a glimpse into the potential of both squads. The College of Idaho showed strong organization and depth, making 13 substitutions to maintain tempo and defensive shape on the very hot turf. Embry-Riddle countered with speed and technical play, but the Yotes' back line held firm.
The College of Idaho takes some time off before returning to play at Walla Walla Univ. (Ore.) on September 19th while the Eagles will stay in Caldwell to face Eastern Oregon tomorrow at 6pm in neutral site action at Simplot Stadium. Tomorrow's matchup will stream for free on the Urban Edge Network (UEN).
