KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. — The College of Idaho softball team opened the Cascade Collegiate Conference Tournament with a determined effort, falling 8–4 to British Columbia Friday morning at Stilwell Stadium.
The Yotes struck first when Kamryn Ham scored in the third inning, and they continued to apply pressure at the plate. Lena Zahniser delivered a two-RBI double in the fifth, and Chloe Flerchinger added an RBI double in the fourth. Zahniser reached base twice in the game, while Ashlynn Nixon drew two walks and drove in a run.
Ham, Sweet, Zahniser, and Flerchinger each recorded a hit for the Yotes, who made the most of their offensive opportunities, drawing five walks and battling through eight total strikeouts against a strong Thunderbirds pitching staff.
In the circle, Abbey Brooks started and allowed just two earned runs over 2.1 innings. Ambrie Jones and Drewsey Williams combined for the remaining 3.2 innings of relief.
College of Idaho will return to action tomorrow in a win-or-go-home matchup as they look to keep their postseason alive.
