Nixon Goes Yard, Yotes Deny the Sweep

CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho softball team closed out its four-game series against No. 8 Eastern Oregon with a 5-3 win in Saturday's finale at Symms Field. Despite the victory, the Mountaineers took the series 3-1, securing the CCC sweep with a 7-1 opener on the day.

In the finale, Ashlynn Nixon powered the Yotes with a 2-for-2 day at the plate, driving in four runs including a three-run homer in the first inning and a go-ahead double in the fifth. Drew Williams earned the win in relief, tossing 4.1 shutout innings while striking out four and allowing just two hits.

Eastern Oregon erased an early 3-0 deficit with three runs in the third, but College of Idaho answered in the fifth with Nixon's RBI double and a sacrifice fly from Madelyn Powell to regain control.

In Saturday's opener, the Mountaineers used a pair of late-inning rallies to pull away for a 7-1 win. The Yotes struck first in the fourth when Powell singled home Chloe Flerchinger, but EOU responded with two runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take command.

Hannah Tyree went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Raygun Klippert drove in two more. Kylie Parsons and picked up the win in the circle. The senior right-hander scattered four hits and allowed just one run in a complete-game effort, striking out nine.

College of Idaho continues its home stand next weekend as they host Providence on Friday and Saturday.
