Offensive Explosion Powers Yotes to Twinbill Victory Over Providence

CALDWELL, Idaho — A red-hot offense led the College of Idaho to a commanding doubleheader sweep over Providence (Mont.) on Friday afternoon at Symms Field, as the Yotes racked up 24 runs on 17 hits across two games to win 11-3 and 13-3 in Cascade Conference play.

In Game 1, the Yotes erupted for seven runs in the second inning and never looked back. Lolo Walker opened the scoring with a solo home run to left - her first of two long balls on the day - and later added a three-run double to finish 2-for-2 with four RBIs. Madelyn Powell added a three-run homer in the fourth, while Kam Ham tallied two hits, an RBI, and two runs scored.

Abbey Brooks (11-3) picked up the win in the circle, allowing three runs over 3.2 innings before Ambrie Jones closed out the final five outs.

Providence broke through with a three-run fourth inning, keyed by Sydney Wilting's two-run double and a bases-loaded walk drawn by catcher Marilyn Comack.

The Yotes kept rolling in Game 2, plating six runs in both the second and third innings. Walker launched her second homer of the day - a grand slam - and finished with five RBIs. Ashlynn Nixon cleared the bases with a three-run double, while the Yotes drew nine walks and stole three bases.

Jones (2-2) earned her second win of the season with a complete-game effort, striking out two and allowing six hits over five innings.

For the Argos, Tiffany Fuentes doubled and scored in the second inning, while Olivia Roe and Sydnee Weber each drove in runs.

College of Idaho improved to 13-7 in conference play and 22-9 overall. The teams will wrap up their four-game series Saturday afternoon in Caldwell.
