Yote Rallies Come Up Short

PORTLAND, Ore - The College of Idaho lost a pair of games to conference foe Warner Pacific Univ. The Knights started game one hot, scoring nine runs in the first four innings to shut the door early on the Yotes. In game two, the Yotes fell early and trailed 5-2 in the top of the ninth. The Yotes scored a pair of runs in the ninth but couldn't get the game tying run across.

Game 1 Warner Pacific 12, College of Idaho 4

Warner Pacific exploded for nine runs across the first four innings, including a thunderous 3-run homer by Nisbet in the third and a 2-run shot by Deverna in the fourth. Nisbet was a force, finishing 4-for-5 with six RBIs and a double, while Deverna added two RBIs and a home run of his own.

The Yotes  struck first, grabbing a 1–0 lead in the opening frame as James Hull led off with a walk, stole second, and later scored on a groundout by Jack Ingraham. But Warner Pacific responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning and never looked back, putting the game out of reach with a 7-run cushion by the fifth.

Still, College of Idaho showed fight.

Trailing 10–1 entering the eighth, the Yotes rallied. After Chandler Stocking drew a walk and Hull singled, Caden Casagrande ripped a double to left field, plating a run. Jace Mahlke then delivered a two-RBI single to right, cutting the deficit to six. Casagrande finished with two hits and an RBI; Stocking also added a hit and a stolen base.

The Yotes stranded eight runners on base and were unable to capitalize on key scoring chances, including three left on in the ninth after loading the bases with two outs.

Game 2 Warner Pacific 5, College of Idaho 4

The Yotes found themselves trailing 5–2 heading into the top of the ninth. With one last swing left in them, they came alive. Connor Olsen was hit by a pitch to ignite the rally, and Pete Bacon followed with a scorching double down the left field line. Then Cannon Morgan, who was electric all game with a 3-for-5 performance, beat out an infield single to bring home a run.

Hull kept the fire burning with an RBI single of his own, cutting the deficit to one and bringing the go-ahead run to the plate. But Warner Pacific's bullpen held firm, recording the final out on a high pop to right field to end the Yotes' comeback bid.

College of Idaho out-hit Warner Pacific 11–10 and played flawless defense—committing zero errors—but left seven men on base in key moments.

At the plate, Morgan, Mahlke, and Ingraham each turned in multi-hit performances, while Bacon capped his afternoon with a double, two RBIs, and a run scored.

The Yotes will look to even the series tomorrow with the final two games of the series scheduled to be a doubleheader starting at 1pm MT.
