CALDWELL, Idaho The College of Idaho baseball team opened their series against British Columbia with a tough 19-6 loss at Wolfe Field on Friday afternoon. Despite a late push from the Yotes, the T-Birds' early offensive outburst proved too much to overcome.
British Columbia (9-8, 7-2 CCC) came out swinging, plating four runs in the first inning and adding five more in the second. Trent Lenihan led the charge for the T-Birds, going 4-for-6 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Teammate David Krahn was unstoppable at the plate, tallying five hits and four runs in seven at-bats, while Aaron Marsh and Kyle Yip each drove in three runs to fuel UBC's dominant performance.
The Yotes (12-7, 2-5 CCC) found their rhythm later in the game, scoring in four of the final five innings. Cannon Morgan sparked the offense in the fourth, crossing home plate on a wild pitch to put College of Idaho on the board. In the seventh, Brandon Faire ripped an RBI double to score Jack Ingraham, followed by a run-scoring single from Pete Bacon.
Darren Smith showcased his consistency at the plate, going 3-for-3 with an RBI single in the ninth that brought home Trevor Watkins. Despite their efforts, the Yotes couldn't overcome the T-Birds' early lead.
For British Columbia, Ryan Beitel earned the win, striking out six over seven innings and allowing three runs on eight hits.
The Yotes will look to bounce back tomorrow as they continue their series against the T-Birds. First pitch is set for noon at Wolfe Field
