CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho (15-17, 5-14 CCC) Yotes and Corban Univ. (7-23, 3-16 CCC) battled it out after a one hour rain delay for the first game. The Warrior snapped a 17 game skid in game one winning a tight 5-4 and the Yotes avenged the loss in the nightcap 7-4 in nail biting fashion to split the day.
Game 1 CRB 5. CI 4
Corban took the lead in the 5th inning when Isaac Bateman scored on a double play, followed by Peyton Rickard's RBI single that brought him home. College of Idaho responded in the 6th inning with
Darren Smith's RBI single, narrowing the gap to 2-1. ?
The 7th inning was pivotal for Corban, as they extended their lead with three runs. ? Bateman's triple set the stage, and Rickard's single brought him home. Lucas Mertlich and Edward Vasquez capitalized on errors, pushing the score to 5-1.
College of Idaho fought back fiercely in the 8th inning. ?
Connor Olsen's 2-RBI single and Smith's RBI single brought the score to a tense 5-4. However, Corban's defense held strong, with Jackson Young securing the save in the final inning, ending a 17 game losing streak and earning the Warriors their first victory on the road this season.
Game 2 CI 7, CRB 4
Corban started strong in the second inning with Knox Hubbard's double down the right field line, bringing Drew DeMasi home. ? Chase Elliott then scored on a wild pitch, giving Corban a 2-0 lead. ? In the fifth inning, Rickard's single down the right field line drove in two more runs, extending Corban's lead to 4-0. ?
However, College of Idaho responded fiercely in the bottom of the fifth. ?
Trevor Watkins stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error, allowing
Bryan Ebe to score. ? Smith walked with bases loaded, bringing in another run.
Jace Mahlke and
Austin Moon contributed with a walk and a hit by pitch, respectively, each driving in a run.
Cannon Morgan's single to shortstop brought in two more runs, capping off a six-run inning and putting College of Idaho ahead 6-4. ?
In the eighth inning, Smith's double added another run, solidifying College of Idaho's lead.
Kaden Lapp came in the top of the ninth, needing only three more outs to secure the win. He struck out the first two Warriors and Elliott's ground out to short stop earned Lapp the save and insured
Nate Vidlak got his second win of the season.
The two ball clubs continue the series at Wolfe Field in Caldwell tomorrow morning. First pitch is scheduled for 11am MT.
