FOREST GROVE, Ore. – The College of Idaho softball team cruised to a pair of dominant victories against NCAA Division III opponent Pacific University on Tuesday, winning 6-0 and 10-1 in a non-conference doubleheader.
In the opener, the Yotes (18-4) shut out the Boxers (3-11) behind a complete-game gem from Abbey Brooks (9-0), who tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits while striking out five. The Yotes' offense struck early, scoring three runs in the second inning. Madelyn Powell led the way at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs, while Hallie Campbell collected four hits. Lena Zahniser and Brinley Iverson each added RBIs in the commanding win.
The Yotes' bats stayed hot in game two, erupting for 10 runs on 11 hits in a five-inning victory. Kayla Vahlberg delivered the biggest blow, crushing a three-run homer in the fifth inning. Sydney Jund and Ashlynn Nixon each drove in two runs, while Kate Crosby scored three times. Grace Neer (4-1) was solid in the circle, scattering eight hits and allowing just one run over five innings.
With the sweep, College of Idaho improves to 18-4 and will return to conference play this weekend at Warner Pacific to wrap up their Oregon road-trip.
