CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho junior infielder Lena Zahniser was named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Softball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Zahniser, a Bend, Ore., native, played a key role in the No. 24-ranked Yotes' series sweep of Corban University, delivering a dominant performance at the plate and in the field. She posted a .625 batting average (5-for-8) with two doubles, a home run, and eight RBIs, recording a 1.250 slugging percentage. She also scored two runs over the weekend.
Defensively, Zahniser was flawless, tallying 19 putouts with a perfect fielding percentage. Her weekend was highlighted by a diving catch in foul territory to secure a crucial out.
The Yotes will return to action this weekend at home as they continue CCC play.
