CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho softball team put on a dominant display Friday, securing a Cascade Collegiate Conference series victory over Corban with a commanding doubleheader sweep at Symms Field. Originally scheduled to be played in Oregon, the games were moved to Caldwell due to inclement weather in the forecast, with Corban designated as the home team.
In the opener, the Yotes erupted for seven first-inning runs and never looked back, rolling to a 14-0 five-inning victory. Brinley Iverson ignited the offense with a leadoff home run, while Lena Zahniser and Audrey Sweet each drove in two runs in the explosive frame. The Yotes tacked on six more runs in the fifth inning, capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting.
The fifth inning also saw a complete shift in the Yotes' batting lineup, with substitutions made across multiple positions. Despite the changes, the offense remained relentless, continuing to apply pressure and add to their commanding lead.
Abbey Brooks was stellar in the circle, allowing just one hit over five scoreless innings while striking out four. Corban struggled to generate offense, managing just one hit in the contest.
Game two was a pitching showcase for the Yotes as Williams (3-1) fired a two-hit shutout in a 4-0 victory. The Yotes struck first in the opening inning on a Zahniser RBI double. A third-inning run extended the lead before Hallie Campbell's two-run single in the seventh put the game out of reach.
Drew Williams was in control throughout, striking out four and allowing only two baserunners beyond first base. Corban's Banks suffered the loss despite a gritty 6.1-inning effort in the circle.
With the series win, College of Idaho continues its strong start to CCC play and will look to carry its momentum into Saturday's doubleheader with the Warriors.
