CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho softball team put together a dominant weekend performance, shutting out Corban University in all four games to complete a 36-0 scoring differential in the series. The Yotes capped off the sweep with a one-hit gem from Abbey Brooks and a near-flawless no-hitter from junior Grace Neer on Saturday at Symms Field.
Neer (3-0) was electric in the series finale, striking out eight over five innings in a 9-0 run-rule victory. While she did issue two walks, she kept the Warriors off balance all afternoon, facing just 17 batters and throwing 71 pitches to secure her first career no-hitter.
Brooks (6-0) was just as impressive in the first game of the doubleheader, allowing only one hit over six shutout innings while striking out five. Her efficient outing helped set the tone as the Yotes cruised to another 9-0 win.
Corban battled throughout the series despite facing one of the top pitching staffs in the conference. The Warriors managed just one hit on Saturday and found it difficult to generate offense against the Yotes' arms.
Meanwhile, College of Idaho's offense remained relentless. Lena Zahniser provided a major spark in the opener, crushing a three-run home run in the first inning and finishing with five RBIs. Kate Crosby was a consistent presence at the top of the order, scoring three runs in the second game. The Yotes capitalized on defensive miscues from Corban while also delivering clutch hits to keep the pressure on.
The Warriors showed flashes of solid defensive play, but the Yotes' ability to manufacture runs in multiple ways proved too much. College of Idaho scored in the first three innings of both games Saturday, making sure Corban never had a chance to settle in.
With the sweep, the Yotes continue their strong start in Cascade Conference play, relying on dominant pitching, aggressive baserunning, and timely hitting. They will look to carry their momentum forward as they chase a top spot in the standings.
