CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho baseball team delivered an explosive performance in Game 1 before falling short in a hard-fought battle in Game 2 of a doubleheader against Central Washington Univ. at Wolfe Field in their first games with the new turf.
Game 1: College of Idaho 13, Central Washington 2
The Yotes came out swinging in the opener, dominating Central Washington with a relentless offensive attack and stifling pitching. A breakout fifth inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Darren Smith, set the tone for a lopsided 13-2 victory.
Connor Olsen was a force at the plate, collecting three hits and driving in three runs, while Jack Ingraham and Tucker Seabaugh each doubled in runs during an electric eighth inning. Ben Gaff also contributed with a key sacrifice fly, and Cannon Morgan's RBI double in the sixth extended the Yotes' lead.
The pitching staff was stellar, with Jackson Cummins earning the win after four innings of scoreless relief. Oliver Massie and Grant Jakobson combined for four shutout frames before Central Washington managed to scratch across two unearned runs in the eighth.
The victory marked a statement performance for the Yotes, tallying 16 hits and capitalizing on multiple defensive miscues by their opponents.
Game 2: Central Washington 7, College of Idaho 3
Game 2 proved to be a different story as the Yotes fell behind early and couldn't muster the same offensive firepower. Central Washington's six-run surge in the middle innings proved too much to overcome in a 7-3 defeat.
Despite the loss, Cannon Morgan remained a bright spot for the Yotes, going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Austin Moon and Connor Olsen each drove in runs, while Brcye Mahlke and Bryan Ebe added some late-game spark on the base paths.
The Yotes gave up 12 hits and committed two costly errors that couldn't be overcome despite putting pressure on late in the game. The Yotes look to rebound tomorrow for another doubleheader at 11am. tomorrow morning at Wolfe Field.
