Yotes Use Late Comeback to Split Doubleheader Against Lewis-Clark State

CALDWELL, Idaho — After struggling in the opener, the College of Idaho baseball team stormed back in the nightcap to earn a thrilling 7-6 victory and split Saturday's doubleheader against Lewis-Clark State at Wolfe Field.

Game 1: Lewis-Clark State 10, College of Idaho 0

The Warriors took control early and never looked back in the opener, using a combination of timely hitting and dominant pitching to blank the Yotes, 10-0.

Lewis-Clark State jumped ahead in the first inning on a Charlie Updegrave RBI single before adding two more runs in the fourth. The game remained within reach until the sixth, when the Warriors erupted for five runs, capped by a grand slam from Jack Sheward that pushed the lead to 9-0.

College of Idaho struggled to find offensive rhythm, recording just four hits in the seven-inning contest. Jack Ingraham was a bright spot, collecting two of the team's hits, while Evan Brown and Pete Bacon each added one.

On the mound, Oliver Massie was tagged with the loss despite allowing just one earned run over four innings. LCSC's Evan Canfield kept the Yotes off balance, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts.

Game 2: College of Idaho 7, Lewis-Clark State 6

The Yotes flipped the script in Game 2, rallying from a four-run deficit to complete a dramatic 7-6 victory.

Trailing 6-2 entering the bottom of the seventh, College of Idaho's offense came alive. Ingraham got things started with an RBI single before a combination of walks and Warrior errors allowed the Yotes to tie the game at 6-6. With momentum on their side, the Yotes pushed ahead in the eighth when James Hull delivered the go-ahead RBI single to right field.

Reliever Jacob Lewis was lights-out in the late innings, holding LCSC scoreless over four frames while striking out four to earn the win. Kolby Solomon took the loss for the Warriors, who had led for most of the game thanks to a three-run homer from Brandon Cabrera in the fifth.

With the victory, College of Idaho improved to 11-3 on the season and evened the series heading into Sunday's conference finale and Monday's non-conference matchup.
