KIRKLAND, Wash. — The College of Idaho women's basketball team closed out its pre-holiday road swing with authority Saturday, powering past Northwest University 86-53 behind explosive scoring runs and a lockdown defensive finish.
The Yotes, now 9-3 overall and 3-1 in Cascade Conference play, broke open a tight contest late in the second quarter. Leading 26-25 with just over six minutes before halftime, C of I erupted for a 19-7 surge to take a 45-32 lead into the break. That momentum carried into the third quarter, where the Yotes opened with 12 straight points, pushing the margin to 57-32 and effectively putting the game out of reach.
Defense was the story in the fourth quarter. The Yotes allowed just one point over the final 10 minutes, holding Northwest to 0-for-18 shooting from the field. C of I forced 20 turnovers and converted them into 29 points while dominating the glass with a 42-36 rebound advantage.
Brooke Beresford anchored the effort with a double-double, scoring 14 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
Kylie Waltermeyer added 11 points and five assists, while
Anna Mooney chipped in 10 points and five assists.
Mia Austin provided a spark in the second quarter, hitting three triples and finishing with 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Off the bench,
Riley Beck was perfect from the floor, scoring 13 points in 15 minutes.
The Yotes shot 49.3 percent from the field and 40.7 percent from beyond the arc, while holding Northwest to just 32.3 percent overall and 20.7 percent from deep.
C of I returns home after the holiday break to host Eastern Oregon on Dec. 30 at 5:30 p.m. inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
