CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho women's basketball team opened the Caldwell Classic in style Friday night, pulling away in the second half for a 76-60 victory over The Master's University inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The Yotes (3-2) used a dominant third quarter to break open a tight contest, outscoring the Mustangs 24-12 to turn a one-point halftime lead into a comfortable advantage. C of I shot 61 percent in the period and finished the game at 44 percent from the floor while holding TMU to 39 percent.
Kylie Waltermeyer led the charge with a game-high 20 points on an efficient 8-of-10 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc. Mia Austin added 11 points and eight rebounds off the bench, while Brooke Beresford and Riley Beck chipped in 10 points apiece. The Yotes dominated the glass with a 50-33 rebounding edge, paced by Maiya Hardy's 12 boards.
C of I's depth proved pivotal, as the bench contributed 34 points compared to just six for the Mustangs.
For The Master's (3-4), Allie Miller was outstanding, scoring 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including three triples, and adding five rebounds. Alli VanKooten posted a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.
The Yotes return to action tomorrow at 2 p.m. MT against Northern New Mexico College as part of Idaho Appreciation Night at the Activities Center.
