FORT WORTH, Texas – The College of Idaho women's volleyball team secured two wins on Friday at the Texas Two-Step. The Yotes opened the day with a sweep of host school Texas Wesleyan and later triumphed in a grueling 3-2 match against Bethel College (KS).
In their first match, the Yotes dominated Texas Wesleyan in a 3-0 sweep. Key players included Janae Rayborn, who led with 10 kills and 13 digs, and Haley McUne, who added 7 kills and 14 digs. Savannah Hutchins orchestrated the offense with 16 assists, while Deshy Sandoval anchored the defense with 17 digs.
The afternoon match against Bethel College proved to be a tougher test, but the Yotes prevailed in five sets. After splitting the first four sets, the Yotes won the deciding fifth set 15-11.
In the Bethel match, Haley McUne led the Yotes with 14 kills, contributing significantly to the team's success despite recording 8 errors. She also added 22 digs, showcasing her all-around play. Shelbey Nichol was highly efficient, hitting .355 with 13 kills on 31 attempts. Alexa Wheeler added 8 kills and 12.5 points overall, hitting .292 in the process.
Janae Rayborn added 8 kills and 10 digs, while Savannah Hutchins once again directed the offense, contributing 22 assists and 8 digs. On the defensive side, Deshy Sandoval was outstanding, recording a match-high 37 digs.
The Yotes improved to 3-3 with the victories and will look to carry their momentum into the final day of the Texas Two-Step, where they are set to face Oklahoma Wesleyan and Nelson University in Waxahachie, TX on Saturday.
