CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 21 College of Idaho softball team extended a trio of winning streaks with a doubleheader sweep of Warner Pacific on Saturday. The Yotes took game one by a 17-0 margin and the nightcap with a 6-2 win. The two wins extend the winning streak to 16 games, its Cascade Collegiate Conference mark to 13 straight and a stretch 10 consecutive at Symms Field.
College of Idaho (23-7, 13-0 CCC) started the day with a 17-0 rout of Warner Pacific in five innings. The last time that the Yotes put 17 on the scoreboard was against Northwest on March 11, 2022. Sophomore
Lena Zahniser hit a grand slam in the first inning on her way to a six-RBI afternoon. Along with the grand slam by Zahniser in the first, a
Hattie Hruza RBI double, College of Idaho led 5-0 after one inning. They added five more in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth on its way to the win.
Zahniser and Lexi Navarette each had two hits and eight teammates each had a hit. Navarette also had three RBI,
Madison Kinsey and
Madelyn Powell each had a pair.
The offensive onslaught was enough for
Annie Polster, who allowed just one hit – a single in the third inning, on her way to the complete game win. After throwing a no-hitter on Friday, she came back with the one-hitter and struck out five in the win.
The nightcap saw College of Idaho plate three in the first on its way to a 6-2 win to wrap up the weekend series. Eight-different Yotes had a hit, including a pair by
Lolo Walker.
Warner Pacific spoiled the shutout bid for
Grace Neer with a pair of unearned runs in the seventh. She struck out four on her way to the win as she is now 4-0 on the season.
Next, College of Idaho will travel to La Grande, Ore. for a four-game series against Eastern Oregon. The series gets underway on Friday, Apr. 5 with a doubleheader at 2 p.m. (PST)/3 p.m. (MT).
