La Grande, Ore. – A RBI single by Haley Tyree by No. 15 Eastern Oregon was just enough to lead the host Mountaineers to a 1-0 win in ten innings over No. 19 College of Idaho on Saturday.
The RBI single by Haley Tyree disrupted a pitcher dual by
Annie Polster of College of Idaho and Kaylie Hoskins of Eastern Oregon. Polster struck out six, allowing just five hits; whereas, Hoskins picked up the shutout after allowing seven hits and recording 14 strikeouts.
The two teams were held without a hit until the fourth inning until each team picked up a single. The Yotes silenced the EOU threat with a double play to end the inning. Another stellar defensive play by College of Idaho in the fifth came the host Mountaineers off the scoreboard. With two out, the Yotes relayed a throw from left fielder
Madelyn Powell to third baseman to
Lindsey Jones to catcher
Hallie Holland as they got Addison Ribordy, who was attempting to score from first.
The best threat for College of Idaho came in the seventh with runners on first and third with no outs. Hoskins came back to get a strike out, pop out and fly out to end the threat. The Yotes also had a pair on base in the eighth before a foul out ended the opportunity for the visitors.
In the 10
th, Kwlly Monaghan picked up a one-out walk for the host Mountaineers. She moved to second after a two out single by Brylin Field. Then, Haley Tyree delivered the walk-off single by plate Monaghan for the winning run.
Game two of the doubleheader was postponed in the fourth inning due to rainy conditions as well as chilly temperatures. The game will be resumed on Sunday.
