Beacons and Yotes Split Twinbill

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

EUGENE, Ore. – The College of Idaho Yotes baseball split the weekend 2-2 with hosts Bushnell. In the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the top of the first started with the Yotes striking first. The Beacons' Taiga Yaman walked three-straight Yotes with two outs before a Jack Ingraham infield single scored Brayden Macy and Chandler Stocking. The Beacons responded themselves with a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Isaiah Hart scored off of an Ethan Stacy triple down the right field line. Then, Stacy capitalized on a passed ball to tie the contest. The game remained close until a Jordan Wilson sacrifice fly out to right field allowed Kai Keamo to score the game winning run in the seventh inning.

Jordan Kelly led the Yotes with two hits in the game and earned a walk in four at bats to lead the Yotes. Jackson Cummins pitched a complete game and struck out nine in the loss. The Beacons used four pitchers with Colby Knutzen getting the win.

The second game saw Bushnell's Wilson hit a home run to start the bottom of the second inning. The Yotes bats came alive in the fifth inning. A Jordan Kelly single through the left side advanced to second on the throw himself moving Ben Gaff to third and a hustling Kris Kirkpatrick beat the throw home to tie the score at 1. Next, Alex McFarland-Smith followed that up with a single through the left side allowing Ben Gaff to score to prompt a Beacons pitching change. Chandler Stocking greeted the reliever with a single to left field, allowing Jordan Kelly to score and put the Yotes up 3-1. The Beacons responded to the Yotes' three run fifth inning with a three-run inning themselves in the sixth. College of Idaho came back with an explosive five run eighth inning on its way to the win. A two-RBI single by Jordan Kelly brought in Kirkpatrick and Dawson Cummins to score. Then, McFarland-Smith followed that up with a two-RBI double allowing Kelly and Gaff to score. The hit parade continued as Darren Smith recorded an infield single, scoring Jack Ingraham on the way to the 8-4 win for the Yotes.

Jordan Kelly led the offense with five hits, three RBI and two runs scored. Alex McFarland, Chandler Stocking, and Darren Smith were all also able to earn two hits in the game. Oliver Massie struck out five batters in four innings of service in a no decision while the final three inning performance by Jackson Cummins earned him the win.

Next, College of Idaho will be on the road for a four-game series against nationally-ranked LC State in Lewiston.
