CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 21 College of Idaho softball team extended its winning streak to 14 with a doubleheader sweep of Warner Pacific in a pair of five-inning victories with a 11-0 win in game one and 13-2 victory in game two.
Game one saw senior
Annie Polster throw her first career no-hitter in game one. Ironically, the last time that a College of Idaho pitcher recorded a no-hitter was when
Grace Neer held the Knights without a hit in the series finale, last season. Based on records available, it is the ninth in program history.
Warner Pacific managed to load the bases in the top of the first before Polster got her second strikeout of the inning to end the threat. The offense quickly gave her plenty of support when lead-off batter
Kaylee MacDannald hit the first pitch of the bottom of the first over the left-center fence at Symms Field for the early. The Yotes started to pile it out over the next two innings. First, they scored two runs on three hits in the second and they plated eight runs on eight hits in the third as they sent 12 batters to the plate. In the third,
Lolo Walker hit her 10
th home run of the season to lead a 12-hit attack. Walker finished the day with three RBI to go along with two hits, MacDannald scored twice and had three RBI to go along with two hits. Lena Zahnisher went 2-for-2 with a run scored and two RBI in the five-inning victory.
The nightcap, the Yotes kept the hot bats alive with a 10-run first inning on its way to a 13-2 win. In the first, College of Idaho sent 13 batters to the plate scoring the 10 runs on 10 hits. In the inning,
Hattie Hruza hit a three-run home run, Ashlyn Nixon hit a two-run shot and a two-RBI by
Lindsey Jones all played a role in the big inning.
Warner Pacific got on the scoreboard in the second with two runs on three hits, but again College of Idaho had an answer with one more run in the second and two more in the fourth on its way to the win.
Hattie Hruza had a team-best four RBI to go along with two hits,
Kaylee MacDannald had two runs scored and two hits,
Ashlynn Nixon and
Lindsey Jones also had two hits.
All the offensive support was enough for Yotes starter
Abbey Brooks, who wen the distance as she allowed just four hits and struck out five to raise her record to 5-4.
