The recipe for 12-straight wins for No. 21 College of Idaho softball has been stifling pitching and potent hitting which was on display in a doubleheader sweep of University of British Columbia on Friday. The Yotes took game one, 3-0 and game two, 8-1.
Â
Game one saw College of Idaho starter
Annie Polster pick up her fifth-straight win and third shutout of the season. Polster limited the Thunderbirds to just three hits and struck out two in the 3-0 win. Despite being held to just five hits, the Yotes got enough offense from a two-run home run in the fourth from
Lexi Navarrete while holding a 1-0 lead. Grad student
Hattie Hruza had two of the five hits, who also plated a run in the win.
Â
Game two saw the bats come alive for eight runs on 11 hits in the 8-1 win.
Lolo Walker hit her ninth home run of the season en route to a three-hit game and
Madelyn Powell also had three hits. Both Walker and Powell each scored twice in the victory.
Chloe Flerchinger had a pinch-hit two RBI single.
Â
After a scoreless first two innings, College of Idaho scored five times in the top of the third with two coming on the home run by Walker. The Thunderbirds scored its lone run of the twinbill in its half of the third as they stranded the bases loaded.
Â
The Yotes had added one more in the fifth and two more in the sixth on its way to the win. In the circle,
Abbey Brooks picked up her fourth win of the season and
Ambrie Jones closed out the contest and did not allow a hit in the final 4.1 innings of the contest.
Â
The two teams will wrap up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday at noon (MT).
