CALDWELL, Idaho - The Yotes saw no shortage of offense on Saturday in their doubleheader with Westcliff, seeing 28 runs cross the plate in two games as they swept the doubleheader with Westcliff, winning 23-5 and 5-1.
Game One
The Yotes (5-4) offense showed up in full force in game one, registering 10 first inning runs as they chased the Westcliff starter from the game before recording an out. The squad saw multiple hit performances from
Ben Gaff,
Chandler Stocking,
Alex McFarland-Smith,
Jordan Kelly, and
Darren Smith. All five of those players also recorded at least two RBI's in the win.
The Warriors would strike first as Caleb Castanchoa would record a home run in the top of the first inning. From there, it was all about the College of Idaho. McFarland-Smith would tally three of his four RBI's in the game on a three run blast to opposite field to give the Yotes a 3-0 lead. Smith would record the first of his hits which drove in Kelly and
Kris Kirkpatrick.
Matthew Iwamizu would follow that up with a single to center, scoring Smith.
On his second at-bat of the inning, Gaff would double to right center field, scoring
Bryan Ebe and Iwamizu. The last run of the first inning came on a Kelly single to left. The Yotes would tack on another three runs in the third inning, capped off by a Smith double. The Yotes offense was capped off by an Ebe double to right center, giving them a 23-5 lead.
Willy Shirts earned the win, pitching an inning in relief and not allowing a run. Kyle Doughner was tabbed with the loss, not recording an out and allowing seven earned runs.
Game Two
The nightcap of the doubleheader saw the bats cool off just slightly, yet still drive in five runs.
Alex McFarland-Smith once again had a multi-hit game, as he was the only Yote with more than one hit.
In the first inning,
Kris Kirkpatrick drove in his only RBI in the contest on a sacrifice fly to center, scoring
Chandler Stocking.
Jordan Kelly would follow that up with a double to left field, as McFarland-Smith would come across to make it 2-0 after one inning.
Stocking would follow up his run with an RBI in the second, singling to drive in
Jace Mahlke. The Yotes offense in game two was capped off with a Kelly groundout which scored McFarland-Smith. The Warriors would record their only run in the contest on an Oscar Juarez pinch-hit single to left field, driving in Drew Barrett.
Nate Vidlak was tabbed with the win, pitching five innings in relief, only allowing one run and striking out five. Chance Shipley was tabbed with the loss, pitching five innings and allowing four earned runs.
The two teams will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Wolfe Field.
