COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. – The College of Idaho women's basketball team dominated in a mid-day matchup on Friday, defeating Walla Walla University 64-49 at Windemuth Court. The Yotes used a balanced attack and consistent defense to notch their second conference win of the season.
Sophomore forward Brooke Beresford led the charge for the Yotes, recording a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Beresford shot an efficient 6-of-12 from the field and added two assists and a block. Junior guard Mia Austin provided a spark off the bench, tallying 12 points, including four three-pointers, along with five rebounds in just 24 minutes of action.
Taryn Riley contributed across the board with eight points, three assists, and two steals, while McKenzie Hirsch added eight points off the bench, going 3-for-5 from the floor. Anna Mooney chipped in with five points, three assists, and a steal.
The Yotes' defensive effort was highlighted by Kylie Waltermeyer and Beresford, who combined for three blocks and limited Walla Walla's offensive rhythm. College of Idaho forced 15 turnovers, converting them into 16 points.
Walla Walla was led by Chariah Daniels, who posted 16 points and nine rebounds, and Jordan Green-Wallace, who added 12 points off the bench. Despite their efforts, the Wolves were held to just 34.4% shooting from the field and a dismal 11.1% from beyond the arc.
College of Idaho took control in the second quarter, outscoring Walla Walla 22-12 to carry a 32-24 lead into halftime. The Yotes maintained their dominance through the second half, building their largest lead of the game at 19 points in the fourth quarter.
As a team, the Yotes shot 47.3% from the floor, including 34.8% from three-point range, and outscored the Wolves' bench 27-12. College of Idaho also recorded 19 assists on 26 made field goals, showcasing their unselfish play.
The Yotes return to action on Saturday as they continue their conference slate, aiming to build on the momentum from Friday's victory.
