Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Yotes Push No. 6 Providence to the Brink

HELENA, Mont. – In a nail-biting contest at Carroll College's PE Center, the College of Idaho Women's Basketball team gave everything they had against the sixth-ranked University of Providence Argos. Despite a valiant effort, the Yotes fell 71-61 in a game that showcased incredible energy, momentum swings, and standout performances from both sides.

The Yotes (2-2) came out determined to prove they could hang with one of the NAIA's best, trading blows with the Argos (7-2) in the early stages. A strong second-quarter surge, led by Mia Austin's sharpshooting from beyond the arc, saw the Yotes briefly take a lead. Austin drained four triples en route to a 12-point performance, as the Yotes shot an impressive 42.9% from deep.

The game featured four ties and two lead changes, with the Yotes leading by as many as eight points midway through the second quarter. Ashton Adamson provided a spark with her relentless energy, tallying 11 points, three assists, and three steals, while Taryn Riley contributed 9 points and 4 rebounds.

However, the Argos' experience and poise came through in crunch time. Guard Ashlee Maldonado put on a clinic, scoring a game-high 20 points and adding 8 rebounds and 5 assists, controlling the tempo in key moments. Keanna Salave'a was a force inside, posting 11 points and 9 rebounds, including several key plays in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

The Yotes found themselves outmuscled on the boards, with Providence holding a 34-22 rebounding edge. Despite this, the Yotes' defensive pressure led to 17 points off turnovers, keeping them within striking distance until the final minutes.

The Yotes will take on Carroll College on November 30th in Helena, Mont. Tip off is scheduled for 2pm MT.
