Yotes Pounce On Red Hawks

CALDWELL, Idaho — The College of Idaho women's basketball team lit up the J.A. Albertson Activities Center Friday night, securing a commanding 70-47 win over Simpson University (CA) behind a balanced attack and relentless defense.

The Yotes (2-1) showcased their depth, holding the Red Hawks (4-2) scoreless for the first five minutes of the game while building an early 9-2 advantage. College of Idaho extended its lead to as much as 23 points late in the fourth quarter, never relinquishing control from the opening tip.

Junior guard Mia Austin led the charge, pouring in 14 points, including two three-pointers, and dishing out three assists. Brooke Beresford controlled the boards with nine rebounds while adding 12 points, including a crucial three-pointer to open the fourth quarter and crush any hopes of a Simpson comeback.

Freshman Brooke Zimmermann delivered off the bench, contributing nine points and five rebounds in just 16 minutes, part of the Yotes' staggering 30 bench points. Meanwhile, guard Taryn Riley orchestrated the offense with a team-high three assists, tying Austin and Anna Mooney in play-making contributions.

The Yotes stifled Simpson's offense, forcing 27 turnovers and converting them into 25 points. They also dominated the glass with a 41-30 rebounding edge, and their aggressive perimeter defense limited the Red Hawks to just 34% shooting from the field.

Simpson's Tessa Kinney was the lone bright spot for the visitors, finishing with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds. However, the Red Hawks could not keep up with the Yotes' high-energy pace, especially in transition and on second-chance opportunities.

The College of Idaho will hit the road next week to face the University of Providence in Montana on November 29th, looking to build on the momentum of Friday's statement win.
