LEWISTON, Idaho — The College of Idaho volleyball team fell to Lewis-Clark State in a five-set battle on Friday night at the P1FCU Activity Center. The Yotes rallied after dropping the first set but ultimately lost 25-23, 21-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-9 to the Warriors.
Shelbey Nichol led the way for the Yotes with 17 kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while Abby Draghici added 9 kills and hit .368. Janae Rayborn contributed 8 kills and 11 digs, but the Yotes were unable to capitalize on key moments, despite out-hitting the Warriors .180 to .184.
Lewis-Clark State's Juliauna Forgach Aguilar was a force with 32 kills, and the Warriors dominated the decisive fifth set, hitting .348 to the Yotes' .217.
How It Happened:
Lewis-Clark State took a tightly contested first set, 25-23, as both teams battled through nine tie scores. The Yotes responded in the second set, improving their hitting to claim a 25-21 win, led by solid play from Shelbey Nichol and Abby Draghici.
In the third set, College of Idaho edged the Warriors 25-23, but momentum shifted back to Lewis-Clark State in the fourth. The Warriors hit .275 and pulled away late, taking the set 25-19 to force a decisive fifth.
In the final set, Lewis-Clark State dominated, hitting a match-high .348 while limiting the Yotes to just 9 points. Juliauna Forgach Aguilar's powerful performance led the way as the Warriors sealed the win, 15-9.
