Yotes Ignite in a 3-1 Triumph Over Southern Oregon

ASHLAND, Ore. — The Yote offense surged to life against Southern Oregon University today, on Saturday, October 5, registering 27 shots in a 3-1 victory. Six players contributed to the scoring, with goals and assists shared throughout the team. Coming into the match with a perfect 4-0 record against conference opponents and a nine-match unbeaten streak, the Yotes improved their season record to 7-0-2, extending their win streak to five games.

Despite the warm weather, C of I started with high energy, creating early chances in the box. The breakthrough came in the 25th minute when Larissa Wegner, shortly after checking in, headed a long ball from Delaney Reed into the net for her third goal of the season. The Yotes' defense stifled Southern Oregon for the remainder of the half, limiting them to just two shots and no goals. C of I outshot the Raiders 27-9 overall.

In the second half, the Yote offense initially struggled to convert chances. Finally, in the 79th minute, Eden Makaafi broke through, receiving a pass from Allison Moultray, and calmly finishing to make it 2-0, marking her fifth goal of the season.

In the closing minutes, Alexis Eiguren ignited the offense with a dangerous play in the box, resulting in a foul. From the free kick, Natasja Davis seized the momentum, chasing down a loose ball after Eiguren's block. She delivered a precise cross that Eiguren headed in for her first goal of the match in the 89th minute, bringing her season total to seven goals.
Just before the final whistle, Southern Oregon mounted a late offensive push, resulting in a chaotic moment in the box that led to a handball call against the Yotes. The Raiders were awarded a penalty kick, which Taytum Curtis converted into the bottom left corner, finalizing the score at 3-1.

The Yotes will return home to face Carroll College on Friday, October 11th at 4 PM, followed by a match against the University of Providence on Saturday at 5:30 PM.
