EUGENE, Ore. — The Yotes hit a major milestone this afternoon, securing the conference title with a decisive 2-0 victory over the Bushnell Beacons. With this win, the Yotes boast an 8-0 record in conference play and sit at 10-0-2 overall.
The game opened with the College of Idaho firing a shot within the first minute, yet the first half would remain scoreless as both teams struggled to break through. Despite outshooting Bushnell 7-2, the Beacons' defense would hold firm, and each side would only manage one shot on goal. The Yotes would head into halftime understanding they would need to elevate their game in the second half. Despite their dominant control of possession, they were well aware of the stakes in this match.
And intensify they did. Tallying two fouls within the first minute of the half, the Yotes' aggression would pay off in a goal three minutes later. In the 50th minute,
Larissa Wegner would maneuvere into the box and find
Alondra Osuna at the far post, who tapped the ball in with ease. Just four minutes later,
Cydney Ziegler would send a cross from the right to
Eden Makaafi, who would deftly flick a header past the Bushnell goalkeeper, scoring her eighth goal on the year. The Yotes turned up the intensity, recording 11 shots in the half and 18 overall, while Bushnell totaled four shots by game's end.
This victory is pivotal for the nationally ranked College of Idaho Yotes, as they set their sights on the conference tournament title. With three conference games left, they'll need to maintain their resilience to make this season the best in school history.
Next up, the Yotes face Corban University in Salem, Oregon, tomorrow at 1 p.m. MT. They'll return to Caldwell on November 1st to host Warner Pacific University at Simplot Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
